The pastors are here! After spending a long night stranded in a broken down bus, they made it to Puerto Cabezas about 3:00 this afternoon. I was so impressed with this group as the walked into Pastor Earl's campus. Although they were exhausted, the greeted us with smiles and hugs as they met us for the first time. I am so looking forward to meeting these men and spending more time with them tomorrow. We will now adjust the schedule and begin the conference tomorrow. I suspect that other schedule changes will occur, but God is in charge of all of that and we're just following His lead.
Because it is likely that the conference will now run into Friday, we took the opportunity to drive to Betania to visit the farm that Austin Fricker has started with (and for) the community. I am amazed at Austin's vision, passion, heart, and perseverance. It rained hard as we drove the 15+ miles to Betania, and it took an hour for us to make that journey over dirt roads with large potholes filled with rain water. We rarely got out of first gear. The people of Betania are beginning to work the farm and capture the vision. One local even saw the success of some of the crops and decided to try to create his own small farm (or garden) behind his house. There is still so much work to do to make this sustainable all year round, but Austin is an amazing young man and I am convinced he will see this through. Once again, seeing this with my own eyes has made an impression on me that isn't possible through another's words, or even photos. God is teaching me so much, and the real teaching is yet to come. - Chuck
